Friðheimar Greenhouse

Friðheimar Greenhouse, nestled in the scenic countryside of South Iceland, is a unique attraction that combines sustainable agriculture with culinary delights. Specializing in tomato cultivation, this family-run farm offers visitors an exceptional experience, showcasing the innovative use of geothermal energy in Iceland's agriculture.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Friðheimar is its year-round tomato production. Thanks to the abundant geothermal energy, the greenhouse maintains a perfect growing environment, even in Iceland's harsh winters. This sustainable energy source powers the heating and lighting, ensuring a constant supply of fresh, juicy tomatoes.

Visitors to Friðheimar can explore the greenhouse and learn about the advanced techniques used in tomato cultivation, including the use of bumblebees for natural pollination. The knowledgeable guides provide insights into the farm's eco-friendly practices and the benefits of geothermal energy.

A highlight of the visit is the chance to dine in the greenhouse’s charming restaurant. Surrounded by rows of tomato plants, guests can enjoy a delicious menu featuring fresh tomato-based dishes, such as homemade tomato soup, freshly baked bread, and even tomato ice cream. The restaurant's unique setting and farm-to-table cuisine make for an unforgettable dining experience.

Friðheimar also offers a variety of homemade products, including tomato chutney, jams, and drinks, which visitors can purchase as tasty souvenirs. This innovative greenhouse not only showcases Iceland’s agricultural ingenuity but also provides a delightful culinary journey, making it a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Iceland.

We went with Arctic Adventures. Our guide was Andre and he made our trip fantastic. Mini bus was great, places great. Secret lagoon was very hot, careful if kids are getting in. All the other stops were fun and a hood 8 hours spent.

Brilliant tour. Tour guide was very informative and funny. Told you plenty of things about each site you visited. Definitely recommend
