Geysir Geothermal area

The Geysir Geothermal Area, located in the Haukadalur Valley of southwestern Iceland, is a spectacular showcase of geothermal activity and natural wonder. Home to the famous Great Geysir, which gave its name to geysers worldwide, this area is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Iceland's Golden Circle.

Although the Great Geysir is mostly dormant today, the area is still alive with geothermal activity. The star attraction now is Strokkur, a highly active geyser that erupts every 5 to 10 minutes, sending boiling water up to 30 meters (98 feet) into the air. Watching Strokkur's powerful eruptions is a thrilling experience, offering a dynamic display of the Earth's geothermal energy.

The geothermal area is dotted with steaming vents, bubbling hot springs, and colorful mineral deposits, creating a surreal and vibrant landscape. The intense geothermal activity is a result of the region's location along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet.

Visitors can explore well-marked paths that wind through the geothermal field, offering close-up views of the various geothermal features. Informative signs provide insights into the science behind geysers and the history of the area.

The Geysir Geothermal Area not only offers a fascinating glimpse into the powerful forces shaping our planet but also provides a sensory experience of sights, sounds, and smells unique to this geothermal hotspot. Whether you're a geology enthusiast or simply curious about nature's wonders, a visit to the Geysir Geothermal Area promises an unforgettable adventure.

We went with Arctic Adventures. Our guide was Andre and he made our trip fantastic. Mini bus was great, places great. Secret lagoon was very hot, careful if kids are getting in. All the other stops were fun and a hood 8 hours spent.

Brilliant tour. Tour guide was very informative and funny. Told you plenty of things about each site you visited. Definitely recommend
