Travel Iceland's South Coast to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon on this full-day adventure. Sail among towering icebergs, walk Diamond Beach, and see majestic waterfalls along the way.
Sail among gigantic icebergs at Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, one of Iceland's most spectacular natural wonders. The lagoon formed as Breiðamerkurjökull glacier retreated, leaving behind 1,000–1,500-year-old ice that slowly drifts and melts in serene silence. Covering 18 km² and reaching 248 metres deep, the lagoon has been featured in several Hollywood blockbusters.
En route you'll visit two iconic waterfalls: Seljalandsfoss, where you can walk behind the cascade, and Skógafoss, one of Iceland's largest. Stop at Reynisfjara black sand beach to see the dramatic basalt columns and Reynisdrangar sea stacks at Vík. The drive passes Hvannadalshnjúkur (Iceland's tallest peak) and the vast black sand desert of Skeiðarársandur.
At the lagoon, board an amphibian boat to sail among icebergs calved from Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier. Nearby, the Diamond Beach displays ice chunks washed ashore, glistening against black volcanic sand.
Approximately 14 hours — this is one of the longest day tours from Reykjavík, departing early morning and returning late evening.
A dinner stop is included at Freysnes; bring snacks for the drive. Lunch is at your own expense.
The glacier lagoon boat tour operates from May through October. Winter visits are available without the boat ride.
