The Blue Lagoon is Iceland's most iconic attraction, and our combo tours let you experience it alongside the Golden Circle in a single day. Soak in the milky-blue geothermal waters, apply silica mud masks, and enjoy the stunning lava field surroundings. Our tours handle all the logistics — we arrange your Blue Lagoon entry ticket, provide transport between the Golden Circle and the lagoon, and ensure you have plenty of time to relax. The Blue Lagoon is located on the Reykjanes Peninsula, about 45 minutes from Reykjavik, making it easy to combine with a Golden Circle morning. The lagoon's setting explains its character. It lies in the Illahraun lava field on Reykjanes — a peninsula recognised as a UNESCO Global Geopark, where the Mid-Atlantic Ridge comes ashore — and its water begins as a blend of seawater and freshwater drawn from roughly two kilometres underground by the neighbouring Svartsengi geothermal plant. The water emerges rich in dissolved silica, and it is the silica — fine white particles scattering sunlight — that gives the lagoon its opaque milky-blue colour; the same mineral settles into the soft white mud that bathers scoop from the lagoon floor for the famous face masks. The pool first formed in 1976, when warm outflow from the plant collected in the surrounding lava, and people began bathing in it in the early 1980s after word spread about the water's effect on skin. The water holds a steady 37–40°C in every season and renews itself continuously as fresh geothermal water flows through the lagoon. Reykjanes itself is a young volcanic landscape of moss-covered lava fields, crater rows, and steaming ground — a markedly different scene from the rift valley, geysers, and farmland of the Golden Circle, which is why pairing the two in one day shows two distinct sides of Iceland's geology within a short drive of the capital.
