Ride Across a Glacier
Langjokull is Iceland's second-largest glacier, covering 953 square kilometres of the central highlands. Our Glacier Snowmobile Tour takes you from Reykjavik to the top of this frozen giant, where you will race across an endless white landscape with views stretching to the horizon in every direction.
The Snowmobile Experience
After a super jeep transfer to the glacier surface, you receive a thorough safety briefing and are fitted with a snowmobile suit, helmet, and gloves. The snowmobiles are modern and easy to operate, even for complete beginners. Two people share each machine, taking turns driving and riding, so everyone gets behind the handlebars.
Langjokull Glacier
Riding across Langjokull is a surreal experience. The glacier stretches in every direction, a vast white plain broken only by the distant shapes of mountains and volcanic peaks. On clear days, you can see all the way to Snaefellsjokull on the western peninsula. The silence, broken only by the hum of your snowmobile, is profound.
More Than Just Snowmobiling
After the ride, you have time to walk on the glacier, take photographs, and learn about glaciology from your guide. Iceland's glaciers are retreating due to climate change, and your guide will explain the science behind this process and what it means for Iceland's future. It is a powerful and thought-provoking addition to the adrenaline of the snowmobile ride.
Practical Information
The tour is a full day at 10 hours, including the scenic drive through the highlands. Dress warmly in layers. We provide outer gear but you need warm base layers, thick socks, and sturdy shoes. A valid driving licence is required for the driver of each snowmobile. The tour runs year-round, weather permitting.
