Experience Iceland's Golden Circle in a Small Group
The Golden Circle is Iceland's most celebrated day trip, and experiencing it in a small group of no more than 12 guests transforms a sightseeing tour into a genuinely personal adventure. Unlike large bus tours that carry 40-60 passengers, our small group format means you spend more time exploring and less time waiting. Your certified Icelandic guide has the freedom to adjust the pace, answer every question, and share stories that only a local would know.
Departing daily from Reykjavik, this 8-hour tour covers the three iconic stops of the Golden Circle route: Thingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area, and Gullfoss waterfall. Each stop offers a window into Iceland's extraordinary geology, Viking history, and raw natural power.
Thingvellir National Park
Your first stop is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are visibly pulling apart. Walk through the dramatic Almannagja rift valley, stand at the site where the world's oldest parliament was founded in 930 AD, and gaze into the impossibly clear waters of Silfra fissure. In a small group, your guide can lead you to quieter viewpoints that larger tours simply cannot access.
Geysir Geothermal Area
The Geysir geothermal field gave all geysers their name. While the original Great Geysir is mostly dormant, its neighbour Strokkur erupts faithfully every 5-10 minutes, launching a column of boiling water up to 30 metres into the sky. The surrounding landscape of bubbling mud pots, steaming vents, and mineral-stained earth feels otherworldly. Your guide will explain the geology behind these phenomena and help you find the best angle for photographs.
Gullfoss Waterfall
The Golden Falls are the crown jewel of the route. The Hvita river thunders down two cascades totalling 32 metres before disappearing into a rugged canyon. On sunny days, rainbows arc through the mist. In winter, the falls are partially frozen, creating an entirely different but equally spectacular scene. The viewing platforms allow you to get remarkably close to the falls, and in a small group you will have space to take it all in without jostling for position.
Why Choose a Small Group Tour?
Travelling in a group of 12 or fewer means your guide can tailor the experience. If the group is fascinated by geology, your guide can spend extra time explaining the tectonic rift. If the Northern Lights appeared the night before, your guide might detour to a viewpoint. This flexibility is simply impossible on a large bus tour. You also benefit from a more comfortable vehicle, easier boarding, and a genuinely social atmosphere where you can get to know your fellow travellers.
Practical Information
The tour departs at 09:00 and returns to Reykjavik by approximately 17:00. Hotel pickup begins at 08:30. We provide free Wi-Fi on board, and there are restroom facilities at each stop. The tour operates year-round, rain or shine. In winter, the route may be adjusted slightly depending on road conditions, but the three main stops are always included.
