Flóki Distillery is named after Hrafna-Flóki, the first Norseman to deliberately sail to Iceland. This spirit of exploration and innovation is embedded in our whisky-making process. Established in 2013, Flóki has been dedicated to creating whisky that embodies the pure and untamed essence of Iceland.

The Whisky-Making Process

From Grain to Glass: The Art of Distillation

Our whisky is crafted using 100% Icelandic barley, grown in the harsh but fertile conditions of the island. The unique climate and soil contribute to the distinctive flavor profile of Flóki Whisky. Here is an overview of our meticulous process:

1. Malting: Our barley is carefully malted to develop the necessary enzymes for fermentation.
2. Mashing: The malted barley is mixed with pure Icelandic water, creating a mash that extracts the fermentable sugars.
3. Fermentation: The mash is fermented using a specially cultivated strain of yeast, producing a rich and complex wash.
4. Distillation: Our traditional copper pot stills are used for a double distillation process, refining the spirit and enhancing its character.
5. Maturation: The whisky is aged in oak barrels, previously used for bourbon and sherry, absorbing the wood's nuances and maturing in Iceland's unique climate.
